Issue Summary

Cerebus sees at the same time the kitchen knife incident that happened when he was younger and the first time he killed a guy. His visions end with both his younger self holding up the kitchen knife and his slightly older self holding up the sword he used to kill the guy. Cerebus sits up on the rock and thinks that it was just a dream.

Cerebus looks to his left to see his younger self right after the kitchen knife incident explaining to Tarim that he wasn't supposed to take the knife out of the house, that he was wrong to do so and he'll never be able to explain the lost kitchen knife, how he got stabbed or how he got his new sweater all bloody. Cerebus younger self asks Tarim to make it all right and he'll never do another bad thing. Cerebus looks down to see blood by his crotch and on his hands, and then as he is looking at his hands, the blood disappears and he says 'Aye.'

Cerebus then sees himself as a younger kid again, sitting on a chair looking at a closed door behind which Cerebus' father and Magus Doran are heard talking about Cerebus. Cerebus father is saying how he found his kid right in the middle of the market square telling everyone that he was the chosen one, the son of Tarim himself. Cerebus father goes on to say that Cerebus was denouncing them as sinners, and saying that Vicar Graeme was a drunkard and an adulterer and he asks Magus for a potion or a spell to settle him down a bit. Magus Doran then asks "And what if your son is correct? What if he is the chosen one?"

Magus asks Cerebus' father, who Magus never refers to by first name, only by his job, carpenter, "what do you . . .see. . .when you look at your son, carpenter?" Cerebus' father responses that he sees Cerebus' big ears and shortness. Magus states that what is in Cerebus (never refers to it by name) cannot be settled down, but only channeled, and that he is looking for an apprentice. Magus plays a sort of mind game on Cerebus' father to leave Cerebus in Magus' care as his apprentice.

As Cerebus' vision of his younger self ends, all he says is 'Aye' as we see Jupiter in the distance.
