An empire that used to control much of Estarcion at one point in its history. The Pigts claim to have toppled it.

Black Tower Catacombs

Seen in issue 263.

According to Cerebus they were created by the Black Tower Empire when they tried to conquer Isshuria. The foothills of the God's Fence are "just riddled with them."

The walls of the catacombs are covered with hieroglyphics which Cerebus can read, "The black tower empire is big. The black tower empire has big warriors. The black tower empire is big. The black tower empire has big animals. The black tower empire is big. The black tower empire has big trees." When Jaka claims that Cerebus is oversimplifying the translation he does it per verbatim: "The black tower empire is big. Big as a big sun is the black tower empire. not a small sun, but a big sun. Big as a big moon is the black tower empire. Not a small moon but a big moon. Big as a big land is the black tower empire. Not a small land but a big land. from the place of rising of the sun to the place of the setting of the sun big is the black tower empire. big as the biggest cow is the black tower empire..."

Excerpt from the introduction from Swords of Cerebus, Volume Four: "By the way -- the castle that looks like a huge Black Tower? Remember the Black Tower Empire that I keep mentioning? Well, it has nothing to do with that." On the other hand, the demon heads and skulls carved into the walls are strongly reminiscent of the Black Tower period of architecture (see issue 25, p.5, and most of _Church_&_State_).
